Fancy Shape Gemstone Setting
Set Princess, Trillion, Emerald, Marquise, and Pear-cut stones with precision.
Building on the setting styles from Round Stone Setting Fundamentals, this course teaches you to lay out, prepare seats for, and set fancy-shaped gemstones — stones whose irregular contours demand different measuring, spacing, and seat-preparation techniques than round stones. Over five days you'll apply prong, flush (gypsy), and bezel setting styles specifically to fancy cuts, working hands-on with each shape's unique properties.

Prerequisite: Preparation Class and Round Stone Setting Fundamentals

Day-by-Day
Day 1 — Layout techniques for fancy shapes: measuring, marking, and positioning Princess, Trillion, Radiant, Emerald, Marquise, and Pear cuts for a symmetrical result.
Day 2 — Seat preparation: shape seats to fit each stone's individual contours and proportions securely.
Day 3 — Setting styles: apply prong, flush (gypsy), and bezel setting to fancy-shaped stones, and learn when each style suits a given shape.
Day 4 — Working the shapes: hands-on practice with each fancy cut, focused on the specific challenges each one presents.
Day 5 — Class project: set fancy-shaped stones on practice plates and rings, with instructor feedback throughout.
