About the Course
Ring Fabrication & Rolling Mill
Draw your own stock on the rolling mill, then fabricate round, flat, half-round, and hollow rings from it.
Building on Bench Fundamentals and Torch & Soldering, this course teaches rolling mill technique — drawing and shaping metal stock into the profiles you need — then applies it to fabricating real rings. You'll draw round wire and mill flat and half-round profiles, build a round wedding band and flat and half-round bands, then finish by fabricating a hollow ring entirely from a sheet of metal.

Duration: 5 days (Monday–Friday)
Time: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (one-hour lunch)
Class size: 6 students max
Prerequisite: Bench Fundamentals and Torch & Soldering

Day-by-Day
Day 1 — Rolling mill fundamentals: mill setup and drawing round wire stock.
Day 2 — Profile milling: drawing stock into flat and half-round profiles.
Day 3 — Round wedding band: forming, sizing, and soldering a round band from drawn wire.
Day 4 — Flat and half-round bands: forming and soldering both profiles into finished bands.
Day 5 — Hollow ring from sheet, and capstone: cutting, forming, and soldering a hollow ring from a sheet of metal.
What This Class Doesn't Cover Wax carving and casting (covered in Wax Carving Fundamentals and the Goldsmith Technician diploma's Manufacturing weeks) and gemstone setting.
